Being a stylist for 12 years, I am highly experienced in many color methods. Full blonding services, including color corrections, lived in blondes, platinum retouches, down to money pieces, partial highlights, dimensional brunettes and grey coverage/ grey blending. I still find so much joy in solving problems when it comes to hair!

Curly Cut

Being a curly girl myself (okay- they're big waves) I have lived that "Help me with my curls!" life. Finding understanding with our texture is the first step to solving texture problems. Through education, products recommended in my salon, and an at home maintenance routine, we will find the solutions to help you find the friendship in your texture.

How To Properly Wash Your Hair

Knowing how to wash your hair can prolong your time between washes and save you money on product!

Step 1

First get your hair wet. Apply a pea size amount of your shampoo into your palm and emulsify using both hands. Swipe the top, sides and back of your head with your palms and then using the pads of your fingertips to scrub your scalp. When your hair is dirty, the shampoo will not get sudsy, so if it feels like its not bubbling, rinse your hair, and do it again! Lather, Rinse, Repeat. The shampoo is all condensed ingredients so when you add water, it creates more product. This makes for saving product really easy!

Step 2

After you shampoo, towel dry your hair. I advise all my clients to leave a towel near the shower so you can easily reach it. When there is excess moisture in your cuticle, the conditioner cannot penetrate as deeply. Towel drying before conditioning allows for the conditioner to do its job to its full extent, leaving your hair shiny, healthy and protected!

Step 3

After you've towel dried, apply a pea sized amount of conditioner to your palm. Rub your hands together and apply it to the ends of your hair and work your way up. Then take a wet brush, (again, i advise all clients to leave a brush or wide tooth comb in the shower) and brush that conditioner through your ends. Clip your hair up, and to take it one step further, cover your hair with a shampoo cap. This opens the cuticle and lets the conditioner seep deep into the cuticle. Do everything else in the shower and rinse your hair with cool water at the very end, allowing the temperature to seal the cuticle and protection and shine.

How to Properly Clean Your Tools

Cleaning your tools is an integral part of your hair care routine. Dirty tools can completely undo all your hard work from your wash. Clean your brushes, combs and blow dryer to ensure a clean scalp.

Hair Brush

Remove all hair from your brush with a wire cleaner. Scrub with soap, and let sit in barbicide for an hour.

Combs

Use a nail brush or tooth brush to scrub debris from the base and between prongs and let sit in barbacide for an hour.

Blow Dryer

At the back of your blow dryer there is a filter. Remove the cover for the filter and clean the dust and debris from the corners.

Heat Tools

Make sure your heat tool is off. Use a warm wet towel to wipe down your styling tool.

How To Blow Dry

Step 1

After properly washing your hair, apply your leave-in conditioner to your ends and comb through to ensure the product touches every hair on your head. After you've applied a leave-in, apply your heat protectant. Heat protectants will protect your hair up to 450 degrees and ours will protect until your next blow dry.

Step 2

Rough dry your hair until it is 80% dry. you'll know its ready when you touch your hair with the palm of your hand and it doesnt leave any moisture on your palm. Then section in 5 quadrants- top, sides, and 2 vertical sections in the back. Starting with the top, use your round brush to blow dry with tension in your hands that holds your brush. Gently roll your brush as you dry. When the section is finished, separate the section using a velcro roller. Start with the roller at your ends and roll the length into the roller, securing it with a clip. Repeat this step on the sides and finish in the back.

Step 3

Now that the hair is dry and rolled into velcro rollers, spray your dry shampoo at the base of your hair. Dry shampoo is intended to soak up oil from the scalp as the scalp releases oil, so applying dry shampoo the day you wash your hair will extend your blowdry up to a week. After spraying your dry shampoo to the base, release your rollers starting from the bottom back, and working your way up with the hair around your face being the last to release. Style your hair with the heat tool of your choice, or just enjoy your blowout! Finish the style using an oil to seal the cuticle and eliminate frizz, and spray with a hairspray or texture spray of your choice.

Low Maintenance Hair Color

Lived in Services offer time between services and can range from gloss to color and/or highlights.

Gloss: This service gives shine and tone for up to 3 months. A gloss covers and seals the cuticle. 1 hour of salon time from start to finish and is best when paired with a trim. A gloss will washout within 20 washes, which gives great flexibility when trying out a new color or if you like to switch your colors seasonally.

Demi Color: This service will altar the color of the hair around the cuticle but wont be strong enough to change your grays. This service allows the grays to grow in seamlessly while softening the texture and changing the hair color around the grays. This service is 2 hours of salon time with 4-6 months of time between services.

Highlights: This service will lighten what is touched in your foils and can range from face framing to covering the whole head. Lived in highlights are a finer weave mixed with teasy lights, surrounded by your natural color or a lowlight close to your natural. This service is typically 2.5 hours of salon time with 6-8 months of time between services.

Medium Maintenance Hair Color

Balayage: The french word meaning 'To Sweep'. A balayage is a very gentle way of lightening the hair. This technique is best for clients with naturally very blonde hair or clients with naturally dark hair. A balayage is done without foils, typically calling for cotton or film to lay over the lightener, separating the hair from whats natural and whats intended to create dimension. Because this is done in a very gentle open air environment, the pigment can only lift a level or 2. This service is intended to create a very subtle change in the hair that creates dimension without damage. This service calls for 3-5 hours in the chair with 8 months to a year between salon visits.

All Over Color: An all over color will cover your whole head with the level and tone you're looking for. This freshens thehair color, seals the cuticle and adds shine. Salon time is 2 hours with 2-3 months between salon visits. Because this service will create a line of demarcation when your hair grows in, it is notable that you will need to come into the salon more often to maintain the color of your hair.

Full Highlight: An all over highlight can be lower maintenance, so long as the color is touched up every 2-4 months. Time in the salon at your first visit can range from 4-6 hours to establish an even canvas and looks closer to 2 hours of time in the salon in the following appointments.

High Maintenance Hair Color

Black Hair: Taking the color to a level 3 or below will give shine, protects and seals the cuticle and is a 2 hour session in the salon, with 1-2 months between salon visits. It's important to note that removing dark colors from the hair, whether demi or permanent will be difficult and will result in multiple full highlight sessions. There is a noticeable line of demarcation when the natural hair grows in, and correcting black hair can result in 8 hour sessions with up to 3 sessions to get the hair back to a level 7 and up.

Full Scalp Retouch: This service will reach the highest level of blonde possible, with the lowest risk to over process when done correctly. This must be done every 4 weeks in order to avoid banding and breakage. This service also requires you purchase retail (shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditoner, heat protectant and oil) in order to support the chemical process.

Fantasy Colors: This service requires a full scalp retouch, or full highlights and 2nd process to add desired colors. After lightening the hair to the desired level, we need to wash and blow dry the hair, then add the fantasy colors. This hair color requires that you wash with cold water every 1-2 weeks. You must use specific color safe products and time between trips to the salon vary from every 6-12 weeks, depending on how often you wash and the temperature of your water and deposit colors tend to slip from the cuticle very quickly.
