Laser hair reduction delivers targeted laser energy into the hair follicle, where it is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and converted to heat. This damages the follicle and inhibits future hair production without affecting the surrounding skin. Over a series of treatments targeting hair in its active growth phase, the result is a significant and lasting reduction in unwanted hair growth in the treated area.

Laser hair reduction produces long-lasting results (significantly reducing hair growth in treated areas) but most patients experience some degree of hair regrowth over time, particularly from dormant follicles that weren't in the active growth phase during treatment. The term the FDA approves is "permanent reduction" rather than permanent removal. Most patients are extremely satisfied with the degree of reduction achieved after a full series and require only occasional maintenance sessions to address any regrowth.

Most patients require 6-8 sessions for significant hair reduction, spaced 4-8 weeks apart depending on the treatment area. Hair grows in cycles and laser energy only affects follicles in the active growth phase, which is why multiple sessions are necessary to treat all follicles in a given area as they cycle through their active phase. The Quanta EVO Light 4V's two adjustable wavelengths (755nm and 1064nm) make it effective across a wider range of skin and hair type combinations than many single-wavelength devices. It works best on patients with a contrast between hair color and skin tone (darker hair responds most readily to laser energy. Very light blonde, white, red, or gray hair contains less melanin and responds less effectively to laser treatment. Your provider will assess your specific hair and skin type at your consultation and give you a realistic expectation of results.

The EVO Light's integrated skin cooling system significantly reduces discomfort compared to older laser hair reduction devices. Most patients describe a sensation of mild snapping or warmth at each laser pulse (often described as a rubber band snap against the skin). The cooling feature helps manage this sensation throughout treatment. Most patients find the treatment very tolerable, particularly in smaller areas.

1. Shave the treatment area 24-48 hours before your appointment (the hair should not be visible above the skin surface but the follicle should be intact beneath it).
2. Avoid waxing, threading, or epilating for at least 4-6 weeks before treatment, as these methods remove the hair root that the laser needs to target.
3. Stay out of direct sun and avoid tanning (including self-tanner) for at least 4 weeks before treatment, as tanned skin absorbs laser energy differently and increases the risk of side effects.
4. Arrive at your appointment with clean skin and no lotion, deodorant, or other products on the treatment area.

1. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks following treatment and apply SPF 30 or higher to treated areas exposed to the sun. 
2. Avoid heat (hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise) for 24-48 hours after treatment as the skin will be temporarily more sensitive to heat.
3. Avoid waxing, threading, or any method of hair removal that disturbs the follicle between sessions. Shaving is fine and is the only recommended method of managing hair between treatments. 
4. Some redness and mild swelling in the treated area is normal immediately after treatment and typically resolves within a few hours.

Sessions are typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart for facial areas and 6-8 weeks apart for body areas. This timing aligns with the hair growth cycle to ensure each session targets follicles as they enter their active growth phase. Spacing sessions too closely reduces effectiveness, as does spacing them too far apart. Your provider will recommend the right interval for your specific treatment area.

The EVO Light 4V's 1064nm wavelength is specifically suited for treating darker skin tones safely and effectively. This wavelength penetrates deeper and is less absorbed by the melanin in the skin itself, reducing the risk of surface pigmentation changes while still effectively targeting the hair follicles. Your provider will select and adjust the appropriate wavelength and settings for your specific skin tone at your consultation and each appointment.

Yes! Many patients treat multiple areas in a single appointment. Your provider will advise on timing and manage your appointment accordingly based on the areas being treated. Treating multiple areas at once is efficient and doesn't affect the safety or effectiveness of each individual treatment.
