FAQ's

I've never done Pilates, how do I know if it's right for me?

Pilates is for everybody!  Pilates movement is attainable at any level and focuses on joint health and balance in our stabilizing muscles.  There are many modifications and props that can accommodate anyone who wishes to participate. The goal is movement and strengthening your body from the inside out.

Can I do Pilates while recovering from a injury/surgery/pregnancy?

Yes!  It is recommended to consult your physician to know how long to wait afterwards before starting or returning to Pilates but, there are many modifications to help you feel comfortable while you are recovering.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes that will stretch with your movement.  Please avoid extremely loose fitted clothes as they may be more cumbersome as we move in many different positions.  Bare feet or yoga socks with grippy dots are welcome but, socks are not required.

How early should I arrive?

Try to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of your session so you can find free street parking and access the intercom at the main door.  You will need to use the call box to ring up and be let into the building.  The studio room is on the 2nd floor and you can use either the elevator or stairs to get there.  The public restrooms are also on each floor if you need to stop on your way in.  Any late arrivals may not receive their full sessions due to late start times.

How often should I do Pilates?

As often as possible!  We feel better when our bodies function better and movement is the answer.  Many clients come to the studio 1x,2x or even 3x's a week.  Depending on your budget or schedule you can decide what works for you.  Those that attend more often see changes faster.

What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates is the innovator that developed the equipment and the ways we develop our bodies on that equipment. The focus in each exercise is specific muscle activation and control while balancing the total muscle systems. You will find yourself challenged in coordination and balance throughout your session. Different studios have different philosophies and can range from classical Pilates to contemporary variations on the classics. Be sure to tell your instructor what you are looking for out of your sessions so we can offer exercises that will move you towards your goals.
