No, in normal skin, the procedure does not cause hyperpigmentation, as long as the skin is protected against UV rays after the treatment and for the next 7-10 days with a suitable sunblock. Before treatment a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area. The cream numbs the skin and makes the treatment comfortable and painless. You may, however, experience some sensitivity, particularly around the eyes.
