Hair FAQ's

How long should I wait between haircuts if I'm trying to grow my hair?

Everyone's hair grows differently. Your hair's texture and strength plays a huge role in it's growth, therefore the answer varies from person to person. We always suggest that our clients get a healthy trim and treatment once every season.

Do I really need to use heat protectant?

YES. Always use heat protection. It will not only protect your hair from heat damage, but it will also protect all colour for better longevity.

Pro tip: A heat protectant in an aerosol bottle will always be for dry hair only and a heat protectant in a spray-pump bottle will always be for wet hair only.

Can I go to sleep with wet hair?

NEVER go to bed with wet hair. This can cause moisture at the scalp which can lead to your hair becoming greasy after a day (especially with hair extensions).

How should I take care of my hair at home?

Everyone's hair is unique, so this will vary from person to person.

If you wash your hair twice a week or less, always shampoo twice (wash, rinse & repeat), then finish with either conditioner or a hair mask.

We recommend using professional shampoos, such as Design Me, Alcove & Moroccan Oil (sold at Hair Body Boom).

Always blow dry your hair before bed.

How do I use a purple/toning shampoo?

ALWAYS use a clarifying shampoo before using a purple/toning shampoo and follow with a hair mask.

How often should I get my roots done?

Every 4 weeks for root touch up colour.

How do I care for my extensions?

Brush them multiple times a day to avoid tangling. Wear a bonnet to bed or put into braids. Thoroughly wash in between the extensions. Never go to sleep with wet hair.

How do I keep my colour from fading?

Come in for colour services every 4 to 8 weeks. Reduce washing as much as you can to prevent colour fading. Use heat protectant.

What is a colour correction?

When you're not happy with your colour we lighten the hair all over a couple levels to get you to your hair goals.

Colour corrections require a consultation, we need to assess your hair before doing anything with it so we can inform you of what we CAN do with it, we might not always be able to work with your hair if it is too damaged.

We love when people bring in inspiration pictures to create your perfect look.

What are tape-in extensions?

Tape-in hair extensions are a semi-permanent hair extension method that involves attaching pre-taped hair wefts to your natural hair with medical-grade adhesive.

How long do hair extensions take to put in and how long do they last?

We do a tape-in method, meaning we can put them in within an hour and a half.

Extensions need to be maintained around every 8 weeks, where we will remove them and reapply them. With regular maintenance the extensions will last for over a year.

Aesthetic FAQ's

Does gel or acrylic ruin your nails?

Technically no. The damage often associated with nail services is most commonly caused by application and removal methods. Professional products applied and removed by a certified nail technician should result in little to NO damage done to the natural nail. Drills are not necessary in the application of gel or acrylic and can cause unnecessary damage. Drills are NOT used in our nail applications.

What's the difference between gel and acrylic?

Acrylic is a monomer (liquid) and polymer (powder) blend that results in a rigid, strong nail extension. Gel is a thick, syrup-like nail product that cures to a flexible, often rubber-like coating when put into a UV or LED light. Both are good products with many different applications. A certified nail technician can help you choose the right product for you.

What is the difference between tips and an overlay?

Tips (or extensions) are nails that are created by gluing a plastic nail tip to the end of a short natural nail and applying either a gel or acrylic over it to instantly lengthen short nails. An overlay is when the product (gel or acrylic) is applied directly to the natural nail with no extension used, much like nail polish, with the goal of either growing out nails or simply enjoying chip-free, instantly dry nail colour.

How long does a gel manicure (overlay) last?

A properly applied gel polish should last 2-3 weeks, after which a soak-off (removal) or a fill should be done.

How long should hair be to wax?

Hair should be approximately a quarter of an inch long for best waxing results.

Is bruising or irritation normal after waxing?

No, though mild redness and irritation is perfectly normal after waxing, severe irritation including blistering, raw skin or rash is not. These can be a sign of allergic reaction or bacterial or fungal infection. Always make sure your waxing technician is certified and follows proper health and safety codes. Bruising is a sign of improper technique and it should not happen. Though harmless, it's unsightly and can ruin the look of your fresh wax.

Is there any way to lessen pain during waxing services?

Most clients will find that ibuprofen will help dull the discomfort of waxing. topical numbing agents can also help. However, the discomfort of waxing can often depend on the waxing technician themselves. Technique is important for safe and comfortable waxing so visiting a certified and experienced esthetician is the first step to ensuring happiness and comfort with your waxing service.

How often should I get a facial?

Get a full facial at least twice a year at the change of season (winter to spring/summer to fall) and a refresher facial between those. At home care is also vital to ensuring results from your facial so ask your facialist about recommendations for an at home skin care routine that fits you and your needs.

What is needed to ensure an effective at-home skin care routine?

Always start with a cleanser, exfoliant, serum and moisturizer. Once you're comfortable with your basic routine, masques and toners can be added for further results. The Eminence Organic facial line offers a large array of facial products that guarantee you'll find a facial routine that is fine tuned to your specific needs, so feel free to ask what we would recommend for it.

What order should I use my facial products/skincare routine?

Cleanser, exfoliant, masque, serum and finally moisturizer. Toner is an important step that is often overlooked. It should be used after each time you cleanse to help rebalance your skins natural pH level.

Are regular pedicures really that important?

YES. Regular foot care is vital to not only your foot and nail health but your overall health and movement. Professional and certified foot care can prevent fungal infections, ingrown nails, callous build up, dry skin and foot pain. Oh, and they feel amazing! Pedicures are not just a luxury, they are part of overall body and health care.

Can chronic ingrown nails be remedied without surgery?

YES. A certified technician can help your chronic ingrown nails grow out safely and regular professional toe nail trimming can prevent them from reoccurring.
