Booked your spray tan? Perfect! Here's how you can prepare for your appointment!

  1. Shave, shower and exfoliate at least 24 hours before your appointment. It's important to allow the amino acids to reconstruct as the DHA needs amino acids to develop. Also, the pores of your skin need time to close before the application otherwise it may leave dark spots, and an uneven tan.

  1. If you get your nails or hair done, do it a couple of days before your appointment.

  1. Exfoliating is one of the most important prep steps to getting an even and lasting tan. Use a good quality scrub or exfoliating mitt to sluff off the dead skin cells and impurities. pay attention to rough areas like feet, ankles, elbows, knees, knuckles, etc. If exfoliation hasn't been done properly, your tan could be uneven or fade quickly.

  1. Do not use lotions, gel, wax, shaving cream, that are oil based or any other oil-based products as they can leave residues on the skin and prevent the solution from developing correctly.

  1. Moisturize and hydrate your skin in the days leading up to your appointment, just stop the day of.

  1. Do not wear makeup, cream, sunscreen, perfume or deodorant the day of the appointment.

  1. You can wear a bathing suit, undergarments, or nothing at all! It's all about what you feel comfortable in, no judgements here!

  1. Bring loose and dark fitting clothing to wear after your appointment.

  1. Check the weather for the day of your appointment. If it is raining or heavily snowing, you'll want to plan accordingly and bring an umbrella. Any moisture on your skin will stop the tan from developing in the area it touches. If it is going to be really hot and humid outside, make sure you let your car run with the AC on before getting in to prevent any sweating.

You're tan and glowing!

Now what?

  1. Avoid activities that provoke sweating or any contact with liquid during the development period. If it is cold the day of your appointment avoid turning on the heated seat in your car.

  1. Do not apply and lotions, creams, or makeup on the skin during the development period.

  1. If you will be sleeping with the solution on; go to bed wearing long loose clothing and make sure not to overheat or cause sweating.

  1. Wait 1-5 hours for a rapid or 8-12 hours for a classic before showering. I will give you a prescribed rinse time for your tan, ignoring this rinse time can result in the tan over processing and looking too dark or dirty.

  1. For your first shower, only rinse off the bronzer with only water. Rinse until the water is clear. Do not use any soap or lotions until after the tan has been fully developed.

  1. After your tan is fully developed, make sure to moisturize the skin daily with spray tan safe lotions. Drinking plenty of water will also help keep your skin hydrated.

  1. Avoid lotions, soaps, and body wash containing mineral oils, petroleum, alcohol, and chemical or physical exfoliants. These will strip your tan.

  1. Excessive sweating, jacuzzis, or saunas, chlorine, taking long hot showers/baths can cause faster fading.

  1. Do not wax areas where the solution has been applied for the duration of the tan. a delicate shaving can be done occasionally.

  1. Do not exfoliate the skin until you are ready to remove the tan when it starts to fade and are ready to prep for your next appointment.

What the difference between a Rapid Tan and a Classic Tan?

A Rapid has a higher percent of DHA, which can allow for a quicker rinse time, usually between 1-5 hours depending on the color you are looking to achieve. A Classic will have a longer wiating period before being able to rinse. It all depends on your schedule, preference and when you are able to rise. Both provide gorgeous color and long-lasting results. Because this is a completely customized service that's tailored exactly to your skin tones, and depth of color you are looking to achieve, we can discuss which one is best for you when you come in for your appointment.
