Georgia PMU Licensing:

Step-by-Step Guide

Becoming a licensed PMU artist in Georgia is simpler than many people think. Here's what to expect:

Step 1: Confirm you meet basic eligibility

  1. You must be at least eighteen years of age.
  2. Provide proof of United States Citizenship or lawful presence in the United States as part of the application process (Use form below with government issued idenification and have notorized)

Step 2: Complete Required Certifications

Before applying for your Georgia Body Artist LIcense, you'll need:

  1. Bloodborne Pathogens Certificaton
  2. CPR Certification
  3. Basic First Aid Certification
  4. Hepatitis B Vaccination or a signed Hepatitis B Declination letter (the vaccine can be obtained at your local health dept)

Step 3: Study the Georgia Body Art Rules & Regulations

Download and review all portions pertaining to body art/tattoos. You will be tested on these regulatons to obtain your license.

Step 4: Apply for Body Art License.

  1. The application is processed through your local county environmental health office, but the certification requirements are statewide. Contact your county health department to obtain the application and schedule next steps.

Step 5: Pass the Georgia Body Art Rules & Regulations Exam

Georgia requires applicants to pass a Department-approved exam covering Georgia body art regulations. The exam tests your knowledge of infection control, safety standards, and regulatory compliance. Exam is scheduled with your local county environmental health office.

Step 6: Submit your application & Pay required fees

Fees are set under Georgia’s body art rules. Confirm the current amount and payment method with your local health department when scheduling your exam or submitting your application.

Step7: Keep your documentation organized

Once certified, keep copies of:

  1. Your Body Artist Certification
  2. Training certificates (BBP, CPR, First Aid)
  3. Hepatitis B documentation
  4. Renewal dates and any official correspondence
