Waxing Prep & Aftercare

How to Prepare for your wax
  • Wax consistently. The hair growth cycle is made up of mainly 3 phases, in which the hair can only be damaged during 2. This only happens when you wax every 4-6 weeks consistently. Hair growth WILL slow down and become sparse.

  • Do not shave/Nair between waxing appointments. Nair especially is terribly drying and causes more discoloration over time. Shaving causes friction hyperpigmentation over time.

  • Exfoliate with a sugar scrub, brush, or loofah 2-4 times a week. (ex. Monday, Wednesday, & Friday)

  • Moisturize daily with a gentle lotion or oil.

  • Come in hygienically. Feminine wipes are provided in the treatment room & restroom for bikini waxes.

  • Come in with at least 2 weeks of uninterrupted, non-shaven hair growth.

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing the day of your appointment.

  • Avoid rigorous exercise that may cause chafing in the bikini line.

  • Avoid getting too much sun, as this can cause skin lifting due to the skin health being compromised.

  • For face waxing, avoid any products containing retinols, acids, or any product/medication that may cause the skin to thin.
Aftercare

24 - 48 hours after your wax, do the following:

  • Leave your skin alone! Give it time to recuperate.

  • No touching! Excess bacteria, sweat, and oils getting into freshly waxed skin can spell disaster for breakouts.

  • Avoid sexual activity for the first 24 hours. Bodily fluids, friction, etc. can cause breakouts and sensitivity.

  • Avoid heat from any source including tanning, saunas, outdoor activities, etc. Heat agitates the hair follicles, specifically in the sensitive post wax state, causing swelling.

  • Avoid wearing tight clothing as this can cause excessive friction and trap moisture and dirt.

  • Avoid products that contain common irritants like fragrance or comedogenic (pore clogging) ingredients like heavy oils (yes that includes coconut oil)

  • Avoid fake tanning for the first 24 hours, as the freshly waxed skin may take the stain differently.

  • Avoid hot tubs & bubble baths. Bacteria grows very well in warm wet places that tend not to be cleaned as often.

  • Avoid natural water such as lakes, rivers, oceans, which can contain bacteria such as MRSA. Bacterium like MRSA can travel directly into the blood stream via open hair follicles.

  • For bikini area, avoid wearing tight or heavily textured clothing like spanx or lace underwear. The daily friction from these fabrics can cause unnecessary ingrowns and the development of discoloration.
