Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what level my child is?
  1. Level 1 (Beginner): Select this level if your child relies on flotation devices or an adult to stay afloat. They may be hesitant to put their face in the water, cannot float independently on their back, or have no previous formal instruction.
  2. Level 2 (Intermediate): This is for children who are comfortable completely submerging their head and can float on their front and back without assistance. They should be able to propel themselves through the water for a short distance using basic arm and leg movements.
  3. Level 3 (Advanced): Choose this level if your child can swim the width of the pool unassisted and is comfortable in deep water. They should have a basic understanding of rhythmic breathing and be ready to refine strokes like freestyle and backstroke.

Still Unsure? Proper placement is critical for safety and progress. If you cannot decide between two levels, please schedule a 10-minute in-water assessment with me. I will quickly evaluate their current skills to ensure they are in the perfect class for their ability.

How do I book multiple children?

You have a few flexible options!

  1. Same Skill Level: You can book them together in the same group class slot.
  2. Different Skill Levels: You can either register them for separate group classes suited to their abilities or book individual 1:1 lessons for more focused attention.
  3. Custom Needs: If you have a specific scheduling challenge or want to combine formats, contact me directly—we can work together to create a plan that fits your family’s needs.
What about weather cancellations?

Swimming is rain-or-shine, provided there is no thunder or lightning. In the event of hail, thunder or lightning, the pool must be cleared immediately. Lessons will resume 30 minutes after the last thunderclap is heard. If a lesson is more than 50% complete when canceled due to weather, it is considered "complete." If less than 50% was completed, a make-up credit will be issued. .

Cancellations can be made up any Friday during make-up hours, subject to availability. Make-ups must be completed the same calendar month as the lesson was booked or lesson will be forfeit. One (1) make-up lesson is permitted per student per month.

What is the full cancellation policy?

Cancellations & Refunds

  1. No Refunds: All sales are final. No cash refunds will be issued once a session has begun.
  2. 24-Hour Notice: You must provide at least 24 hours' notice for any absence. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice forfeit the lesson, unless extremely emergent, in which case a make-up lesson will be permitted.

Make-Up Policy

  1. Limit: One (1) make-up lesson is permitted per student per month.
  2. Scheduling: It is the client's responsibility to schedule their make-up lesson. Katrina does not track missed appointments.
  3. Availability: Make-up lessons are conducted exclusively on Friday afternoons and are subject to availability.
  4. Expiration: Make-ups not scheduled prior to the last week of the current month are forfeited.

Parking? Restroom? Shade? What do I bring??

You are welcome to park in front of my house as long as you are  not blocking the sidewalk or parked behind another vehicle.

Please make sure your child goes to the restroom prior to their lesson. Lesson time will not be extended for bathroom breaks. In the event that it is an emergency, there is a camping toilet on site for the child to use. Parents must take waste and dispose of properly.

There is a covered area at the pool with seating.

Please bring goggles and towels, and PLEASE apply sunscreen 20 minutes before the lesson so it doesn't wash off immediately.

Does my baby need a swim diaper?

To protect the water quality, it is MANDATORY that any child who is not 100% toilet trained wears two layers of protection:

  1. A disposable swim diaper.
  2. A snug-fitting reusable swim cover (plastic pants) over it. Your instructor will check for both before the lesson begins.

Contamination Fee If a fecal or vomit incident occurs in the pool due to a failure to follow the diaper policy, causing the cancellation of subsequent lessons for deep cleaning, a $100 Sanitation Fine will be charged to the client's account.

Can I run to H.E.B. while my kid is in the pool with Kat?

For the safety of all swimmers, parents/guardians must remain on the pool deck for the duration of the lesson. If a guardian leaves the premises, the lesson will be immediately terminated, and future lessons may be canceled at the instructor's discretion.

How long will it take my child to get to the Olympics?

While your kiddo may, in fact, be the next Michael Phelps, please be patient with their progress. Children will learn at their own pace based on their age, motor skills, and comfort level in the water. Some children advance quickly, while others may need more time to build confidence. My goal is to build trust and confidence, and foster consistent progress and genuine water safety skills, rather than rushing them through levels.
