Pre Care

Instructions

Make sure you:

  • Eat prior to appointment since you wont be able to for 2 hours after
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Lip blushing might trigger cold sores/fever blisters, so consult your doctor and consider taking a prescription antiviral like Valtrex two days before and after the procedure if you are already prone to outbreaks.

Things to Avoid 48 Hours Before Your Appointment:

  • Refrain from lip fillers six weeks before lip blushing, and avoid lip implants for six months.
  • Avoid exercising 48 hours prior to the procedure.
  • Refrain from consuming alcohol or caffeine 48 hours before the procedure, including decaf coffee and tea.
  • Stay away from sun exposure and tanning on your face two weeks before the procedure.
  • Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before the procedure.
  • Stop using Fish Oil, Prenatal Vitamins, Nutritional Shakes, and "Hair, Skin, Nail" supplements two weeks before the procedure.
  • Discontinue using Retin-A, Chemical and Laser Peels, Microdermabrasions, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), and any chemical exfoliant or "brightening" skincare at least six weeks before and after your brows or lips have healed.

The Healing Process

The color will appear vivid, akin to lipstick, immediately after the procedure, making your lips appear slightly larger, as if you had lip filler injections. This effect will only last for a day or two, after which your lips will return to their normal size, and the color will fade by up to 50% within the initial 3 days. Initially, the color will fade from the inside of your lips outward.

As a crust forms, it will start flaking off, revealing a lighter, more natural color.

Initially, your lips will be tender. It's recommended to drink using a straw and opt for foods that can be eaten with a fork to avoid contact with the lips.

On the day of the appointment (Day 1), you can apply an ice pack (protected with a clean barrier) for 10-minute intervals during the first 24 hours. Ice can be applied hourly if desired, but avoid direct contact with the skin.

From Days 1 to 10, you may experience the following common symptoms, which typically subside within 1 to 10 days:

  • Swelling and redness
  • Tenderness
  • Flaking and mild itchiness during the healing process
  • Dry skin that may last up to 3 weeks
  • In the initial 12-48 hours, there may be fluid or oozing as the skin forms a protective scab. Gently pat the area with a wet wipe to avoid crusting.
  • Keep the lips clean and moisturized with the provided ointment. Avoid disturbing the crust and let it fall off naturally. Lips may ooze for a couple of days.
  • To cleanse the lips, use water wipes to compress in the morning, midday, and evening. Apply a thin layer of ointment with gentle touch several times a day for at least 7 days post-procedure to prevent infection.
  • Allow the lips to peel naturally for a week. Picking at the skin prematurely can cause pigment loss and scarring.
  • The color may seem less apparent during the peeling process but will become more pronounced by the second week and clarify further up to 5 weeks post-procedure.

Post Care

Instructions

The following precautions are necessary to ensure proper healing and maintenance after the lip procedure:

  • Refrain from rubbing, picking, or scratching the area to prevent uneven healing and reduce the risk of infection, leading to potential scarring. Allow any scabbing or dry skin to exfoliate naturally.
  • Avoid stretching the lips excessively by smiling broadly or puckering while they heal, as these movements can strain the sensitive lip edges.
  • Steer clear of direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and tanning for at least 4 weeks post-procedure.
  • Refrain from smoking during the healing period, typically around one week after the procedure.
  • Avoid kissing, oral sex, rubbing, or creating friction on the treated area until it is fully healed to maintain the color.
  • Stay away from intense sweating, exercise, sports, swimming, sauna, steam rooms, jacuzzis, and prolonged hot showers for 10 days.
  • Be cautious while showering to prevent direct water pressure on the treated area for the initial 10 days. You can apply aquaphor to cover your lips.
  • Do not use skincare or cosmetics on the treated area, especially products containing Retin-A, glycolic acids, anti-acne ingredients, or AHA’s/BHA’s.
  • Avoid consuming hot, spicy, salty, or acidic foods for the first 2 weeks and drink liquids through a straw for the first 3 days. Refrain from wiping your lips constantly with a napkin or licking them during meals to aid in the healing process.
  • Stay away from toothpaste with whitening properties for 10 days, as it may affect the lip color. Avoid bleaching, waxing, electrolysis, or laser hair removal treatments near the lip enhancement for 2 weeks.
  • Refrain from using exfoliants, acids (e.g., glycolic acid, lactic acid), or Vitamin A on the tattooed area for 30 days to prevent premature fading.
  • Change to a fresh pillowcase and avoid sleeping on your face during the first 10 days.
  • Do not schedule facials, microdermabrasion, microneedling, peels, or laser treatments for at least 4 weeks as they can impact the pigment.
  • Limit excessive alcohol consumption, as it may slow down the wound healing process.
  • Avoid using Blistex, Carmex, or Chapstick while the lips are healing, just use aquaphor.
  • Refrain from cosmetic injections on the lips for at least six weeks before your appointment.

Please Note

The pre and post-care instructions above will influence the speed of your healing process. Factors like age, diet, stress, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, overall health, and sleep quality can impact healing. Adequate rest, hydration, and a healthy lifestyle are crucial to support your healing and immune system, reducing the risk of infection.

  • All procedures must HEAL, PEEL and FADE! The approximate healing period is 10 days, however healing can be prolonged if your immune system is compromised, if you are generally stressed and by poor diet.

  • Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results.

  • Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning.

  • Until your skin sloughs off and regenerates you will not be able to see true results. It takes 28 days for the skin to slough off and regenerate itself. Keep in mind that even with proper care, some areas may look uneven or patchy. It is absolutely normal because your natural skin regeneration is not a process that your artist can control. This is the purpose of the complimentary touch up included after 6-8 weeks from the initial session to fine tune your enhancement assure that richness of color, symmetry, density in the shape and desired effect is achieved.

  • Healed results vary per individual client. We have no control over what occurs during the healing process. Lips are a muscle and will need 1 to 3 sessions to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable. Some clients will yield to a strong healed lip color. Others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis.

  • You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed. It is advised to use a new lipstick after all lip treatments.
