Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

YES!

Our cosmetic teeth whitening procedure uses an LED light and a plant/mineral-based gel that is bleach-free and safe for clients. The gel helps remineralize teeth during the process, offering a gentle and effective whitening solution.

How long does the treatment take?

The procedure lasts about 90 minutes, split into two 30-minute rounds. Depending on your teeth's response, a third round may be offered for optimal results. We prioritize your comfort and satisfaction, aiming to give you a brighter, more confident smile!

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed depends on your desired level of whiteness. While we typically recommend 2 treatments, we can increase the gel concentration in each session for enhanced results.

How long will my results last?

The duration of your teeth's whiteness depends on factors like your diet, oral hygiene, and lifestyle habits. On average, results can last anywhere from 4-6 months. To maintain your bright smile, it's recommended to avoid stain-causing foods and beverages, and follow a good oral care routine. Regular touch-up treatments can also help prolong the effects. To keep your smile bright, I recommend using our On The Go Pen as needed.

Is it FDA approved? Is it organic?

The term "FDA Approved" is often misunderstood in the context of teeth whitening products. While teeth whiteners are classified as Class I medical devices, they don't receive explicit FDA approval. Instead, they must be registered with the FDA to meet safety and effectiveness standards. Once registered, they can be called "FDA Registered," but not "FDA Approved." Misusing the term "FDA approval" for unregistered products can lead to criminal charges, and the FDA logo cannot be used on private-sector products.

As for organic claims, teeth whitening agents like hydrogen peroxide, which are derived from natural sources, are technically inorganic. While hydrogen peroxide is safe and effective for whitening, it cannot be certified as organic. Products may use terms like "natural," "vegan," or "plant-based" to describe their ingredients, ensuring compliance with industry standards without misleading consumers.

Whitening Facts

The color of our teeth is influenced by a combination of genetic factorsenvironmental influences, and oral hygiene practices.

  1. Genetics: Genetics play a major role in determining the natural shade of a person's teeth. Just as genetics influence hair and eye color, they also impact the thickness and translucency of enamel, which can affect the color of the teeth. People with thinner enamel may have teeth that appear more yellowish because the underlying dentin (a naturally yellow tissue) shows through more prominently.
  2. Environmental Influences: Various external factors, such as diet, smoking, and exposure to certain medications, can affect the color of teeth. For example, foods and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine, and berries can stain the enamel over time. Smoking or chewing tobacco can also lead to yellowing or brown stains on teeth. Additionally, certain medications, particularly antibiotics like tetracycline, can cause discoloration if taken during tooth development.
  3. Oral Hygiene: Regular brushing and flossing help to maintain the natural whiteness of teeth by removing plaque, preventing the buildup of surface stains, and promoting healthy enamel. Poor oral hygiene, on the other hand, can lead to the accumulation of plaque and tartar, which can cause discoloration and make teeth appear dull or yellow.

In summary, while genetics largely influence the baseline color of our teeth, factors like diet, lifestyle choices, and oral hygiene habits can all play significant roles in maintaining or altering that color over time. Proper care, such as avoiding staining foods and maintaining good oral hygiene, can help preserve a whiter, brighter smile.
