Hair Extension Information

Thoughtful. Scalp-Conscious.

Customized. Real-Life Friendly.

At Hearts and Hair, extensions are not about trends or quick fixes. They are about solutions, education, and protecting your natural hair while enhancing what you already have.

Extensions are customized for the individual, their hair, their lifestyle, and their long-term goals. Every decision, from method to hair selection to maintenance schedule, is made with scalp health and longevity in mind.

All extension services at Hearts and Hair are led by Dre, our primary extension artist with over 15 years of experience working with multiple extension methods, hair types, and installation techniques.

Extension Consultations

Extension services always begin with a consultation. This is intentional.

During your consultation, we will:

  1. Discuss your hair goals and expectations
  2. Assess your scalp health, hair density, and growth patterns
  3. Talk honestly about what is realistic and sustainable
  4. Review maintenance, upkeep, and long-term costs
  5. Demonstrate the extensions on a mannequin, including installation and removal
  6. Answer questions openly and without pressure

Consultations exist so guests can make informed decisions and feel confident moving forward.

Who Hair Extensions Are For

Hair extensions can be a great solution if:

  1. Your hair is fine and struggles to grow past a certain length
  2. You have length but want more density or fullness
  3. You are growing out a short haircut and want support through the transition
  4. You want instant length with a natural look and feel
  5. You want added volume without excessive weight or tension

Extensions are color-matched and may be custom-colored to blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

The Method We Use and Why It Matters

After years of working with multiple extension brands and techniques, the methods we use at Hearts & Hair were chosen because they protect scalp health, flexibility, and longevity of your investment in yourself.

This method offers:

  1. No glue
  2. No tape
  3. No adhesives
  4. Less than 2% potential damage when properly installed and maintained
  5. A lightweight, flexible feel
  6. Faster install times than traditional sew-in wefts

Seamless and Discreet Results

  1. No beads showing
  2. No tape showing
  3. Extremely difficult to detect unless closely examined
  4. Hair can be worn up or down comfortably

We also offer multiple weft sizes, allowing customization based on:

  1. Head shape
  2. Hair density
  3. Desired look
  4. Lifestyle and daily habits

This level of customization creates natural, undetectable results.

Experience and Education Matter

Hair extensions are a specialty service. Results depend heavily on the experience and education of the stylist.

The hair used at Hearts and Hair is:

  1. High-quality human hair
  2. Cuticle intact
  3. Selected for longevity and performance

What “Cuticle Intact” Means

The cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair strand. When extension hair is cuticle intact, all cuticles face the same direction.

This is important because it:

  1. Reduces tangling
  2. Maintains softness and shine
  3. Extends the lifespan of the hair
  4. Allows the hair to behave more like natural hair

Lower-quality extensions are often not cuticle intact, which leads to matting, dryness, and premature breakdown.

Investment and Longevity

Hair extensions are a luxury service and an investment. They are not for everyone, and we respect that.

Hair Investment Transparency

Extension hair typically ranges from $800 and up, depending on:

  1. Number of rows
  2. Length selected (typically 18–24 inches)
  3. Color selection

Hair Longevity

With proper care:

  1. Darker colors: approximately 12–15 months
  2. Blonde hair: approximately 8–12 months

Blonde extension hair is often chemically processed to achieve lighter tones, making it more delicate and sensitive to heat and care routines.

Trims and Ongoing Maintenance

Extensions require regular trims just like natural hair.

We recommend a dust cut every 6–8 weeks to maintain fullness and prevent thinning ends.

Dust cuts are booked in-salon and start at $60.

At-Home Care, Products, and Support

Extensions are not high maintenance, but they do require consistent care. Proper at-home care protects your investment and your scalp.

Not all products are safe for extensions. Some ingredients can dry out the hair, create buildup around beads, or shorten the lifespan of the extensions.

We strongly recommend using extension-safe products, which we offer in the Salon. These are selected to:

  1. Maintain moisture balance
  2. Prevent tangling and matting
  3. Support scalp health
  4. Extend the life of the hair

Daily Oiling Is Essential

Extensions must be oiled daily.

Extension hair does not receive natural oils from the scalp, so daily oiling keeps the hair flexible, hydrated, and protected.

Only specific oils should be used. Not all oils are safe for extensions.

During your appointment, Dre will:

  1. Show you where to oil and where to avoid
  2. Teach you the correct amount to use
  3. Recommend extension-safe oils

Improper oil use can cause buildup or slippage, which is why guidance matters.

Heat Styling Guidelines

Lower heat is critical for extension longevity.

Recommended temperature range:

  1. 280–310 degrees

Higher heat can:

  1. Dry out the hair
  2. Reduce lifespan
  3. Cause unnecessary damage

Consistent low-heat styling significantly increases how long extensions look and feel their best.

Simple, Real-Life Care Tips

Extensions should fit into your lifestyle, not complicate it.

Care tips include:

  1. Partial washes when needed instead of full wash days
  2. Washing less frequently but more intentionally
  3. Gentle brushing, especially before bed
  4. Avoiding aggressive towel drying

These small habits make a big difference.

Nighttime and Styling Care

Before bed:

  1. Brush thoroughly
  2. Wear hair in a loose braid

This helps prevent matting and breakage.

Avoid wearing hair pulled too tightly or in high-tension styles regularly. Excessive tension can loosen beads and stress the scalp.

Using Pre-Existing Hair

From Another Salon

Using extension hair purchased elsewhere is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Because we cannot guarantee the processing history or integrity of outside hair, we reserve the right to decline services if scalp health or hair integrity may be compromised.

Extension Disclaimer And Transparency

By choosing extension services at Hearts and Hair, guests acknowledge and understand:

  1. Results vary based on natural hair, lifestyle, and at-home care
  2. Proper maintenance intervals are required
  3. Hair longevity depends on care, heat usage, and product selection
  4. Failure to follow care recommendations may shorten the lifespan of the hair
  5. We may decline services if scalp health or hair integrity is at risk

Our priority is always to protect your hair, your scalp, and your investment.
