From a small East Texas town called Waskom, Tx, horses were always an interest for me but not always an option. I had some good family that helped get me get my feet wet but I wasn't able to really get running until I started college at Stephen F. Austin State University. At SFASU I was able to learn a solid foundation of Horsemanship and Performance that has stuck with me until this day.
Both inside and outside of class I dedicated myself to learning about the craft of working with horses. How they think, how they move, and how to help them learn in our world. Since graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science (Equine Emphasis) in 2021 I have been working for both myself and others solving problems, starting horses, showing, and coaching riders of all ages and backgrounds.
I have so many people I can give credit for my growth as a Horseman and Showman. Cassie, for helping me establish my "logos" with horses, Dr. Kitchens and Kira for helping me establish my "ethos" with horses, and so many friends and mentors along the way that helped me find my "pathos" and discover that I wanted to help horses and riders of all kinds bridge the gaps of knowledge between Performance and Horsemanship.
My experience is varied with the past 4-5 years spent professionally with show horses, problem horses, mules, donkeys, and even starting a couple of horses in the middle of a pasture with no round pen. I emphasize making sure the horse is taken care of physically, building a "good brain", and achieving consistent Performance in the long run, whether showing or otherwise. While some horses and riders have the talent to achieve good results fast, many need a steady build towards success. And even further, irregardless of how talented or untalented, all of our horses need consistency in all possible facets to achieve good results.
It is my firm belief Performance and Horsemanship do not have to be on separate ends of the horse world; they can be equal halves of the same whole. For a couple of very brief example, recreational horses can benefit mechanically from being ridden more correctly, improving their longevity physically. Performance horses can benefit from drills and practices that encourage having a sound mind, so that they can endure the rigors of horse showing. Blending these two areas of the horse world together, my program is able to help both horse and rider achieve their goals in and out of the arena.
