Why Do We Love Showing?

Competition

Showing allows you to test yourself and your horse to be the best that you can be! This is a competition that is a sport that is good for riders of most ages!

Horsemanship

To perform well in the show pen requires you to build trust with your horse, consistency, and learn how to work hard as a horse and rider Team.

Learn Correct Mechanics

Help your horse physically by learning how to get them to move correctly. This can be in forward motion, lateral, collection, and more!

Character

Horse showing is a difficult sport to get started in. There are a lot of ups and downs. We view this as a good thing. Use horse showing to help you improve your patience, consistency, and work ethic.

All About Ranch Showing

Horse Showing is a great way to build your knowledge, character, and have fun!

At MHNPH, we mainly compete in Ranch Riding and similar shows. These shows typically have 4-6 classes at each show. These shows can pick between 8-10 events to fill these classes including Reining, Ranch Riding, Ranch Pleasure, Trail, Flag, Halter, Ranch Handling (Groundwork event), and more! With such diverse set of classes, these competitions push you to be a well rounded rider. From dragging logs, to big stops, and clean transitions - Ranch events have it all!

In Ranch shows, they want forward, ranchy looking horses. In some rule books, they can even penalize you for going too slow. Horses are rewarded for efficiency in maneuvers, correctness, and softness.

In most associations, the headset isn't as important as in other equine sports or areas. So long as the horse carries itself correctly otherwise, it can be bridled or have its own head. Riders are expected to maintain some contact with the horse and not have draped reins. This is because if you were working on a ranch, if something went wrong you'd want to be able to help your horse quickly.
