Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be spiritual to experience a sound bath?

You do not have to be spiritual, religious, meditate regularly, understand energy work, or believe in anything specific to participate in a sound bath! Some people come to Sacred Shell Healing because sound is part of their spiritual practice. Others come because they are stressed, overwhelmed, grieving, burned out, curious, or simply want an hour where they can close their eyes and rest. There is no belief system required here. You are welcome to experience the sounds in whatever way feels meaningful to you, or not assign any meaning to them at all.

Will my religious beliefs exclude me from this experience?

No. Sacred Shell Healing welcomes people from many different religious, spiritual, and non-religious backgrounds. You may be Pagan, Christian, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, spiritual, unsure what you believe, somewhere in between, or something else not listed. You do not have to believe what I believe in order to sit beside someone, listen to beautiful sounds, and rest. I intentionally create experiences that leave room for each person to interpret them through their own worldview.

How can sound healing support me if I’ve experienced trauma?

Trauma can leave the nervous system spending more time in survival responses like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn - even when there is no immediate danger.

Through repetitive sound, rhythm, intentional breathing, and a calm environment, a sound bath can create conditions that encourage the nervous system to move out of that heightened state and toward the parasympathetic “rest and digest” response.

I often describe this as an opportunity to rest, regulate, and reset.

This does not mean that sound healing erases or "cures" trauma. Instead, it can become one supportive practice that helps your body experience moments of safety, stillness, and regulation, especially when practiced consistently over time.

Is this a safe space for LGBTQ+ people?

Yes. Sacred Shell Healing is committed to creating an environment where LGBTQ+ people are treated with dignity, respect, and care.

The same expectation applies to every person entering this space: people of different races, religions, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, backgrounds, and identities deserve to feel physically and emotionally safe here.

Everyone does not have to believe the same things.

We do have to treat one another with respect and kindness.

Is there actually science behind sound baths?

There is scientific research supporting many of the mechanisms involved in sound based relaxation, and research specifically studying modern “sound baths” is continuing to develop today.

Your brain and nervous system are constantly responding to sound. Rhythm, repetition, music, vibration, breathing, and focused listening can influence attention, emotional state, heart rate, stress responses, and relaxation.

You may also hear me speak about the term brainwave entrainment, which refers to rhythmic sensory stimulation, encouraging brain activity to synchronize with certain repeating patterns or frequencies.

Through repetitive sounds and rhythmic patterns, I create an environment with fewer outside distractions, giving you space to slow your breathing, become still, and listen intentionally. These conditions can give the nervous system an opportunity to settle and shift out of a heightened state of stress.

What if I can't turn my brain off?

Meditation is not about forcing your mind to become completely silent. Our brains think, that's what they do. We are human! During a sound bath, the sounds can give your attention somewhere gentle to return when your thoughts wander. You may notice yourself thinking about work, dinner, your kids, something painful, or something completely random. Notice it. And when you're ready, return your attention to the sound. That is the practice.

Will sound healing cure me?

No, sound healing can not cure any illness or diagnosis. This is a holistic wellness practice, and is not a replacement for medical care.

As a Certified Sound Healing Practitioner, my role is not to diagnose you or “fix” you. My role is to offer a supportive environment and practices that may help you slow down, become more aware of your body, rest, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

Sound healing can be one part of a much larger wellness journey.

What actually happens during a sound bath?

My sound baths begin with a short introduction and an opportunity to get comfortable. Depending on the experience, I will guide you through breathing, grounding, meditation, visualization, or gentle body awareness before the instruments begin.

Then, you rest. You may hear crystal singing bowls, a crystal pyramid, a handheld gong, chimes, drums, a rain stick, voice, and other layers of sound. At some moments, there may also be intentional times of silence.

There is no pressure to clear your mind or to meditate “correctly.” Your only job is to experience it.

What am I supposed to feel during a sound bath?

There is no correct response. Some people feel deeply relaxed. Some fall asleep. Some notice emotions arise. Some experience memories, imagery, tingling sensations, heaviness, lightness, warmth, or a sense of time passing differently. And some people simply think, "That was really peaceful".

All of those experiences are valid.

Your response may even change from session to session depending on what is happening in your life, how tired you are, how stressed you feel, and what your body needs that day. I encourage curiosity rather than expectation.

How many sessions do I need?

There is no pressure to schedule any certain amount of appointments!

Some people visit once because they want to experience a sound bath. Some return occasionally when life feels especially heavy. Others make sound baths part of their regular wellness routine and come monthly, or even more often.

My hope is that the practices you experience here become another set of tools you can carry into your everyday life. And when you need a place to return to, The Turtle's Cove will be here.
