Frequently Asked Questions

What machine do you use?

At Smooth Essentials LLC, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, one of the most advanced and trusted laser systems in the industry.

This medical-grade laser combines two powerful technologies:

  1. Alexandrite (755 nm) – ideal for lighter skin tones
  2. Nd:YAG (1064 nm) – designed for deeper skin tones

This allows treatments to be safe, effective, and customized for a wide range of skin types while delivering optimal hair reduction results.

Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction. Many clients experience significantly less hair growth, finer hair, and slower regrowth after completing their treatment series. I like to explain it like this, if you come in with 100 hairs, expect 80 of them to be gone. The remaining 20 hairs will be thin, slow growing and barely noticeable compared to when you first started.

Occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended. Results vary person to person.

Can you treat tan skin?

Absolutely NO TANNING in any form including natural sun exposure, tanning beds, spray tans or lotion/creams. Why you may ask? The laser is targeting pigment in the hair (melanin). When we have active sun exposure, spray tans/lotions, the laser now has an added target and can burn the skin. These burns can be temporary or permanent. The damaging effects of UV exposure occurs even with the use of sunscreen or clothing coverage. I promise you'll be happier being hairy for a few extra weeks than to walk around with scary burn marks. It's not worth it. This Image is to show a visible explanation as to why we CAN NOT LASER TAN SKIN. (not my clients - but what the burns look like)

Who is a good candidate?

Laser hair removal works best when there is contrast between the hair and skin tone, it DOES NOT WORK on hair that is blonde, red, white/grey, or vellus hair (peach fuzz) The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus allows safe treatment across all skin types. Your consultation will determine whether the treatment is appropriate for you.

How many sessions will I need?

Laser hair removal works in cycles, meaning multiple sessions are required to effectively target hair during its active growth phase.

Most clients typically require 6-12 treatments, spaced several weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. Consistency is key, as well as following your technicians advice. Everyone is different and results may vary.

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as a quick hot snap similar to a rubber band. Tolerance varies person to person. Those who have been waxed before find it easy & less painful than waxing. Usually the most painful area is Brazilian, or where ever hair is more dense and thick. But no client has ever stopped a session or said they can't do it!

Are there contradictions?

Yes, during your consultation we will go over things that may be a contraindication like pregnancy, sun exposure, certain medications or health conditions. These have an effect on results & most importantly safety.

Can I treat multiple areas in one session?

Yes and No. While we can treat multiple areas at once, the following appointment may be different timing say for the face vs body. During consultations we will curate the perfect plan for you.

How long are appointments?

Treatment times vary depending on the area being treated. Smaller areas may take only a few minutes, while larger areas/ multiple areas may take 30–60 minutes.

What benefits are there when choosing laser?

Some of the benefits to look forward to are:

· Less skin irritation from shaving like razor burn & ingrown hairs

· 5 o'clock shadows disappear

· Improved skin texture

· Saves money long term compared to waxing or shaving

· Long lasting smooth results

What if im on my period?

That's totally fine! We kindly ask to use a tampon during the appointment. Hormones can lower your pain tolerance & the skin can be extra sensitive, staying red and swollen longer. It does not have a negative impact on results but you can always move your slot if you feel too uncomfortable.
