What is Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage?

Barefoot Ashiatsu is a unique form of massage therapy where the practitioner uses their feet to deliver deep, broad, and consistent pressure. Performed on a massage table with overhead bars for balance, this technique allows for deeper muscle work without the discomfort often associated with traditional deep tissue massage.

Ashiatsu is especially effective for relieving chronic pain, improving posture, increasing flexibility, and promoting relaxation. The long, flowing strokes help decompress the spine, enhance circulation, and release deep-seated tension-making it an ideal treatment for athletes, desk workers, and anyone seeking a deeply therapeutic experience.

My Barefoot Massage Journey

After just one year as a massage therapist, I began to feel the physical toll-especially in my hands and neck. Years of competing in combative sports had already left me with chronic pain and nerve damage in my right arm from a dog attack, along with thoracic outlet syndrome. I needed to find a way to continue doing what I love without further compromising my health.

My journey actually started long before massage school, with my good friend Sharon—my “jiu-jitsu mom." After tough training sessions, she would work on me using a unique combination of her hands and feet. I didn't know exactly what she was doing, but I knew it felt amazing. When I later told her about my injuries and concerns, she was the one who encouraged me to look into Ashiatsu, saying it might be exactly what I needed.

Eventually, I received a 90-minute barefoot massage at Camino Massage Therapy in Colorado Springs, and it changed everything. I felt "massage drunk" for the first time-and walked away knowing I had to learn this technique. Since then, I've become certified in Levels 1 and 2 through the Center for Barefoot Massage, as well as in Barefoot Silks Massage through DeepFeet.

Ashiatsu has allowed me to provide deep, effective bodywork in a way that's sustainable for my own body. It's been a game-changer in my practice, and I'm passionate about sharing its benefits with others.
