DRY CUTTING

WHAT IS A DRY CUT?

Your haircut is done on your hair in its natural, dry state - styled how you normally wear it. I shape everything based on how your hair actually falls, piece by piece.

after the cut, we’ll cleanse, reset, and style your hair so you leave knowing exactly how to maintain it at home.

WHY CUT DRY?

When hair is cut wet, it can shift as it dries - especially with texture - dry cutting removes the guesswork — i work with your hair in its natural state so i can see how it lives and moves. this allows me to shape your hair intentionally.

The result is a shape that feels more natural, more balanced, and easier to maintain in your real life.

DRY CUTTING FAQ

Will my hair still be washed and styled?

Yes- after the cut, we cleanse, reset, and style so you leave understanding your hair and how to maintain it.

Is dry cutting only for curly hair?

No - it’s especially beneficial for textured hair, but it works on all hair types when the goal is a more intentional, lived-in shape.

What if i wear my hair straight sometimes?

That’s totally fine! I’ll take that into account when shaping so your hair works both natural and styled.

How should I come to my appointment?

Come with your hair dry, detangled, and styled how you normally wear it.

If possible no buns, braids, or slick backs - it helps me see how you hair usually lays.

HAIR CARE GUIDE

in the shower

  1. fully saturate your hair before shampooing
  2. focus shampoo on the scalp, not your ends
  3. let shampoo sit for a minute to actually cleanse
  4. condition roots to ends
  5. rinse with cool/warm water -not hot-
  6. clarify every couple weeks to remove buildup

Styling

  1. start with clean, towel-dried hair (not soaking wet)
  2. use a leave-in or heat protectant before any styling
  3. blow dry with tension for a smoother, longer-lasting finish

work in sections for control and consistency

keep heat moderate

  1. finish with a light oil or serum if needed (mid-lengths to ends only)

real life

  1. always use heat protectant — every time
  2. before pool or ocean: saturate your hair and lather conditioner through it (don’t rinse)
  3. use dry shampoo on clean hair to soak up oil as its produced

fine/medium hair

prefers lightweight starches - rice starch

absorbs oil without weighing the hair down or making it feel dusty

coarse hair

handles heavier starches - arrowroot

needs stronger absorption and can benefit from the added texture
